Her husband told her the following of his Independent Fundamental Baptist Church:
- No Christmas, no birthdays, and no holidays are celebrated...
- Only religious books are allowed for children and nothing else.
- He has a huge problem with RCC priests, but praises his pastor nonstop saying it isn't the same thing
- Only IFBs are Christians according to him...all other Christians are nuts.
- Everyone who is not an IFB goes to hell.
- Only IFB members believe in God.
- His IFB church must get rid of dissenters.
This woman went on to say:
"More importantly, I am very good at debate (studied politics) and I know a lot about religion and theology so I counterargue his points but it is useless because he just sticks to ''this is what the bible says though'' and ''this is what the church says though'' even if his claim is crazy and it is clear that I have a point. Example: I asked about his ancestors (indigenous, never knew of IFB) and he says that they went to hell because only IFB can go to heaven."
"I admit I have become increasingly curious about this [her husband's IFB Church] over time because what started as me thinking it's just Christianity has led to me thinking it is very cult-ish like the Jehovah's Witnesses are. And I just want to be aware of what this religion [IFB] really is."
"Many of his [her husband's] family members are weirdly obsessed with Israel, naming their businesses after it like they have a ceramics store called Israel Ceramics, Israel flags in their home. I was so confused by this even until now, we live in Mexico in a village and basically no one here knows about Israel or has any opinion on it so it seemed very weird."
Some of the comments to her article include the following:
"They [IFB Churches] are big into homeschooling their kids. Some are KJV Bible only."
"Unfortunately, many IFB churches are led by control-freaks who feel the need to persecute certain people for disagreeing on nonessential doctrines (like the timing of the rapture)." [or Zionism, in the case of James Knox].
